Every day your desperate requests continue to arrive regarding your sofa which has always been scratched by the cat or eaten by your beloved dog .
It's a constant struggle, you've tried them all: a sofa cover (that too was promptly torn apart), screaming at the poor little animal who didn't even go to a Metallica concert, even a few sessions with an animal therapist.
But nothing. Your cat or dog continues to have a sadistic attraction towards your sofa, which now looks like a canvas by Lucio Fontana.
So let's get to the heart of the matter: are there any coatings capable of eliminating the problem of cat scratches or dog bites?
The answer is: YES , they exist, but let's see which are the preferable choices and above all those that can be right for you.
What are the two main problems for those who have an animal at home?
Definitely the cleanliness of the hair , and the resistance of the fabric . Therefore, the covering we are going to choose must be easily cleanable and stain-removable , and will have a higher resistance to scratches and traction than normal coverings.
Let's start with cleaning . Cleaning the sofa in this case is primarily related to the animal's hair, which can get stuck in the weave of the fabric.
We have already understood that we need a texture-free covering . This will allow us to easily clean the hair, with a simple brush or a dry cloth.
Weftless fabrics are also generally easier to remove stains , as dirt does not enter the fabric filaments and become trapped.
On the resistance side, however, we need a thick coating , capable of resisting feline claws and the teeth of our big dogs.
Even in this case, having a texture-free covering is essential. Cats, in fact, love texture, precisely because they love inserting their fine retractable nails between the threads of the fabric. When they feel like they have thread under their nail, they tack, pull and tear the tissue. Therefore, even on the resistance side, it is essential to choose a fabric without a weft .
Now let's get to the gist. Which coverings do we recommend and which ones do we advise against for those who have an animal at home?
We certainly do not recommend natural fabrics , which in fact have a texture and are relatively delicate in washing. What we strongly recommend are two ways: either a microfibre , therefore a textureless covering, generally in polyester and very easy to remove stains, or a leather with a sprayed finish (so not a nubuck or suede, but shiny or semi-gloss).
Regarding microfibre, you know, we recommend the new High Tech Microfibre , which is a completely eco-sustainable thick microfibre, and above all it has truly incredible qualities: it can be washed at high temperatures, it is oil-repellent, water-repellent and stain-resistant. In short, to stain it you have to be really good.
It is obviously textureless and has excellent scratch resistance properties. This is definitely the first choice.
In addition to this, there is also our classic microfibre which is also stain-resistant and very resistant, so this too can seriously save the sofa you have in the living room. This product is also cheaper than High Tech microfibre , so it is well suited for purchasing sofas on a limited budget.
If you are not a fan of microfibres and prefer something more natural, what we recommend is leather . We recommend not choosing suede, because they are too delicate when cleaning. Also make sure that the leather with which you are covering your new sofa is thick, and therefore not too thin.
