In this blog we will talk about the ancestor of our Pelè armchair: the EGG CHAIR by Arne Jacobsen !
We will tell the story of an armchair with a truly important role in the field of product design . The Egg Chair, in fact, represented a fundamental point in the research on materials and shapes carried out by Arne Jacobsen.
In 1958 Jacobsen was entrusted with the design of the Radisson SAS Hotel in Copenhagen, a task which also included the design of the furnishings of the hotel's lobby and reception.
The Egg Chair has polyurethane padding and a cast fiberglass structure, both very innovative materials for the time.
The particular name of this armchair recalls the shape of an egg, an organic shape based on curved lines. The result is a versatile seat , which envelops the person and ensures comfort.
From the Radisson Hotel to global success it was a short step. Like any design masterpiece, the Egg Chair is still a must have today that adapts to any furnishing style.
